Emma Watson’s Driving Ban Prompts Caution From Road Safety Specialists
Growing up in an urban environment and studying at both the Dragon School and Headington School, Emma Watson secured her breakthrough role in the Harry Potter franchise at a young age.
Portraying Hermione Granger — one of the series’ main characters — she continued in the role throughout all eight films, becoming a household name.
Now 35, Watson decided to pursue higher studies in September 2023, enrolling for a Master’s degree in creative writing. By February, it was confirmed that she had transitioned from the Master’s programme to a DPhil.
Recently, insurance specialists have urged young motorists to treat driving offences with seriousness after Watson’s own driving ban gained widespread attention.
The actress shared that she had reached 12 penalty points on her licence, leading to a temporary ban — news that prompted many supportive messages from fans.
But experts at One Sure Insurance warn that the online reactions might unintentionally make driving bans seem less serious for young drivers. As part of Road Safety Week, they are emphasising the importance of responsible driving.
Even though young drivers account for only seven per cent of Britain’s licence holders, they are involved in roughly a quarter of the country’s fatal road accidents.
