Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Education

Online education is a method of progressing skills and proficiency through electronic devices like computers, mobiles, laptops, etc using the internet. Online education makes it useful for tutors or mentors to reach all the students more flexibly and teach them the relevant skills more efficiently. The students who cannot attend traditional regular classes now can also learn anything from anywhere using the internet.
Online Education is the form of education that takes place over the internet. It is also called as e- learning or online learning.
Students attend online lectures with the help of a computer or a smartphone. Although online education has become popular nowadays, it has both advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages:-
1. Flexibility - students can study the online course material during their own time.
2. Comfort- Online lectures can be attended from the comfort of your home.
3. Reduced costs - Online Education can cost less as there is no cost for commuting.
4. Saves Time - It helps to save time as students don't have to travel for online learning.

Disadvantages:-
1. Lacks social interaction- it is difficult to have group discussions in online education. Student-teacher interaction is also limited.
2. Technology issues - Many students face technical issues like slow internet speed or inconsistent internet connectivity. This hampers the learning experience.
3. Cheating- Students can easily cheat if exams are conducted online. They can copy the answers as they give the answers from their own house.
4. Inability to focus- Many students find it difficult to focus on the screen for long period. Students get distracted easily by social media or other sites too.

Online Education has proved to be a boon during the lockdown phase but it has some limitations. It should not replace the traditional way of education as it cannot fully replace the human relationships that develop in a group.
